Dale Weise Injured in Winter Classic

Montreal Canadiens forward Dale Weise had his Winter Classic cut short after he was forced from the game in the second period with an upper-body injury.

Early in the second, Weise had a rough shift where he was cross checked from behind by Boston’s Kevan Miller, toppling him into an oncoming shot that hit him in the hand. Afterward he walked to the dressing room with the team’s equipment manager and sat out the final 14:51 of the second period.

At the start of the third period, the team announced that he would not return.

Weise left Gillette Stadium in Boston with his thumb wrapped, according to Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe.

In just 39 games, Weise has posted a career-high 11 goals and is on pace to set a career-high in points. He current sits second on the team in goals, second to only Max Pacioretty. The team did not update his status following the game. If he misses time, it’d be another loss in a season that has seen the team continually lose players to injury.
