Red Wings Sign Czech Forward Nosek to Extension

The Detroit Red Wings announced on Friday that they have signed center Tomas Nosek to a two-year contract extension. It is reported to be a two-way contract for the 2016-17 season, and a one-way deal for 2017-18.

The Red Wings first acquired Nosek, 23, as an undrafted free agent in the summer of 2014 following a positive season with Pardubice HC of the Czech Republic ExtraLiga. The 6-foot-2, 210-lb., forward tallied 24 goals, 38 assists for 62 points in 129 games with his hometown club, including a team-best 44 points in 2013-14. At the international level Nosek captained his country at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, picking up one assist in six games.

Although he’s only played six games with the Red Wings, he has been successful in the AHL with the Grand Rapid Griffins. In his first season in North America he recorded 11 goals and 34 points in 55 regular season games, then followed that up with 15 goals and 30 points the following year. He has also added eight points in 21 AHL Calder Cup Playoff games.

He offers the Red Wings that good, solid player who can contribute at a high level for the club’s AHL affiliate, and be available to contribute at the NHL level when called on.
