Canucks Lose Ben Hutton for 2 Weeks

The Vancouver Canucks are going to be without rookie defenseman Ben Hutton for two weeks, according to coach Willie Desjardins on Sunday.

It appears to be a bit of a loose timeline with Desjardins saying that he expects Hutton to be gone “something around two weeks.”

Hutton has already missed two games after suffering an undisclosed injury in Wednesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

The 20-year-old rookie defender has eight assists through 20 games this season, which ranks second in points among team defenseman.

He also ranks third on the team’s blueline with a 1.04% score-adjusted CF%Rel while getting the third most favorable zone starts relative to the team’s other defensemen.

Fortunately for the team, both Luca Sbisa and Dan Hamuis are back from injury and they’re able to carry Taylor Fedun as a seventh defender. Sbisa and Fedun may be poor replacements for Hutton’s solid play this season, but they’re at least known quantities and NHL defensemen.
