Carolina Hurricanes Announce 2026-27 Regular Season Schedule

Back on June 25, the Carolina Hurricanes announced their four-game preseason schedule featuring the Florida Panthers and the Nashville Predators. While that was exciting to know when those games will take place, it’s all about the regular season schedule. That said, the Hurricanes on Thursday morning (July 16) announced their upcoming 2026-27 regular-season schedule. What are some things Hurricanes fans should keep in mind this season?

The Hurricanes’ 84-Game Marathon

Before the regular season schedule was announced, the NHL announced the home openers for all 32 teams on Wednesday, July 15. The Hurricanes will take on the Panthers at 5 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 29 to begin the NHL season. It’ll be the ninth time in the last 10 seasons that the Hurricanes will begin the season at home. Plus, they’ve won five of the last six home openers.

Most of the Hurricanes’ home games Monday through Saturday will start at 7 p.m., while there will be nine games starting at different times. The Oct. 13 game against the Washington Capitals will be at 6:45 p.m. because of the ESPN Frozen Frenzy. Furthermore, the Nov. 14 game against the Seattle Kraken will be at 1 p.m. due to the Global Series game in Helsinki, Finland. One other game to take note of is April 5 against the Philadelphia Flyers, which starts at 2 p.m. Eastern due to the NHL’s European Prime Time Initiative.

Due to the new 84-game regular season schedule, the NHL dropped the preseason schedule from six to four games. With that change, the Hurricanes will face every team in the Metropolitan Division four times each now, instead of the random two teams being played three times in seasons past. In terms of the Atlantic Division, they will continue to play those teams three times each.

Regarding the Western Conference, nothing will change when it comes to playing each team twice (one at home and one on the road). It was an easy transition for the NHL to just add two more divisional games after removing the two preseason games.

When it comes to games at the Lenovo Center and the days they fall on, 23 of the 41 will be on either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Furthermore, when breaking down the days and how many games will be on them, here is how it shakes out at home: Monday: two games, Tuesday: six games, Wednesday: one game, Thursday: nine games, Friday: six games, Saturday: 12 games, and Sunday: five games.

The Hurricanes’ 12 Saturday games saw an increase from the 10 they had in 2025-26, where they went 8-1-1. Last season, they had 15 back-to-back games, going 16-9-5. This upcoming season, the Hurricanes have 12 back-to-backs.

In terms of road games, they will have three stretches of four or more game road trips. One of them will be five games between Oct. 17 and 24, where they will face the Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and the St. Louis Blues. That five-game stretch in particular is the annual NC State Fair Road Trip.

Their annual California road swing will begin on March 16 against the Anaheim Ducks and will finish on March 23 against the Dallas Stars. In between those games, they will take on the Los Angeles Kings (March 18) and San Jose Sharks (March 20).

Now that the schedules are out, fans can start circling games on the calendar and count down the days until opening night. We’re officially another benchmark down in the offseason as we get closer to the 2026-27 regular season. Regarding the Hurricanes, Sept. 29 will be a fun night of their second Stanley Cup banner raising and the beginning of their title defense. Who’s ready for the season to begin?
