Chris VandeVelde to Have Player Safety Hearing

Philadelphia Flyers forward Chris VandeVelde will have a hearing Friday with the NHL Department of Player Safety for an illegal check to the head of Chicago’s Jonathan Toews in Wednesday’s win that put Philadelphia into a playoff spot..

The hit came at the end of the first period with VandeVelde putting an elbow into Toews head along the boards.

VandeVelde isn’t generally a dirty player and Toews didn’t suffer an injury on the play, which should help him keep any potential suspension to a minimum.

Watch the play below.

Through 69 games this season, the depth forward has a pair of goals and 11 assists with 25 penalty minutes.
