Filip Forsberg’s 2-Goal Night Helps Predators Defeat Kraken 5-3

The Seattle Kraken took on the Nashville Predators on March 6 for their third and final meetup of the season. The Kraken were unable to take the series sweep here. The Predators took this victory, 5-3.

Game Recap

32 seconds into the first period, the Kraken were already on the board. From the boards, Kaapo Kakko passed the puck to Vince Dunn at the blue line. He took a shot, but it was blocked. Adam Larsson was in front of the net, where he was able to pick up the rebound. He sent a backhand shot that found the back of the net.

Seven minutes into the first, the Predators were able to tie it. Joey Daccord passed the puck to Vince Dunn so the Kraken could make a drive back to their offensive zone. Dunn slipped, falling to the ice and losing control of the puck. Colton Sissons was able to pick it up. He sent a pass to Filip Forsberg in the center of the ice. With no one defending him, he took a shot and sent it past Daccord.

At 18:58, Jake Lucchini received a penalty for holding Ryker Evans. He went to the box, and the Kraken would begin the second period with a minute left on the power play.

Seattle couldn’t find success on their first extra-man advantage. Two minutes after the game returned to full strength, the Predators broke the tie. Steven Stamkos was by the boards, close to the net. He saw Brady Skjei at the blue line, passing the puck down to him. He let it fly and the puck found the back of the net.

Two minutes later, the Predators were able to increase their lead once more. Marc Del Gaizo sent the puck into the Predators’ offensive zone. Despite the Kraken trying to get a hold of the loose puck, Jonathan Marchessault was quicker. He gained it by the boards and passed to Forsberg as he skated up to the net with speed. He deflected the puck into the net to score the third of the night for the Predators.

Nashville was not done yet. Nine seconds left in the second, they scored once more. Ozzy Wiesblatt had the puck by the blue line and took a shot. It went wide and Michael McCarron was able to pick up the rebound. He skated the puck behind the net and as he breached the right side, he sent a wrap-around shot into the back of Daccord’s net.

Eight minutes into the third period, Stamkos went to the box for hooking Michael Eyssimont. The two minutes lapsed and the Kraken were unable to score. Shortly after they returned to full strength, the Predators were back in the box. Forsberg had to sit for hooking Jacob Melanson at 11:37. With six seconds left on the power play, the Kraken got their second goal of the night. Andre Burakovsky passed the puck around the boards where it found Jaden Schwartz. He passed to Jared McCann. He skated up from the blue line and took a shot, finding the back of the net.

Three minutes left to go, the Kraken pulled Daccord in an attempt to make a comeback. Instead, it was Nashville who came out on top here. Stamkos sent the puck down the boards, where it was picked up by Luke Evangelista. He outskated all the players defending him and put the puck into the wide-open net.

With two minutes left in the game, Eyssimont made a drive toward the net. He passed the puck to Josh Mahura at the boards. Eyssimont made his way closer to the net, and Mahura passed the puck back to him. He tipped the puck into the net to score the Kraken’s third goal of the night. This was not enough, though, and the Predators took the win 5-3.
