The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forward Nathan Gerbe on injured reserve, the team announced on Tuesday.
The placement is retroactive to November 22 when Gerbe suffered a lower-body injury in the opening frame of a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings. The injury occurred when he took a big hit into the boards from Los Angeles’s Kyle Clifford.
The team’s announcement has Gerbe missing four-to-six weeks.
Through 20 games this season Gerbe has put up just a single goal and two assists. That represents a steep drop-off in point pace for Gerbe, who put up 16 goals and 15 assists through 78 games in the 2013-14 season. That tied a career-high. He also posted 16 goals and 15 assists in the 2010-11 season while playing for the Buffalo Sabres. He posted that total in just 62 games.
