Another coaching hire has been made among the Professional Women’s Hockey League’s (PWHL) expansion teams. PWHL Detroit announced Thursday morning (May 28) that they have hired Josh Sciba as the franchise’s first head coach.

Sciba is originally from Westland, Michigan, so it’ll be a welcome return to his home state for the 2026-27 season. He most recently was an assistant coach for the New York Sirens for two seasons. He also served as an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Olympic Team in February and has been involved in the U.S. Women’s hockey program for a number of years.
Sciba brings experience from coaching for various women’s teams at the collegiate level. He played college hockey and graduated from the University of Notre Dame as well. The local product will be welcomed with open arms when PWHL Detroit makes their debut at Little Caesars Arena this fall.
