It was shocking to hear the news when for NHL defenseman Steve Montador passed away Sunday, especially because he was just 35-years old. Those around the NHL did his part in telling his story on Twitter Sunday. Here are some of the best:

1/3 So sad to hear of Steve Montador’s death. We signed him in Calgary & he was a determined person. Big part of 2001 AHL Championship…

— Craig Button (@CraigJButton) February 15, 2015

2/3 .he was a rookie but contributed so much. He made his way to NHL because of drive & understanding how to best contribute. Magic in ’04.. — Craig Button (@CraigJButton) February 15, 2015

3/3 …Steve made contributions off ice to NHLPA & there isn’t words to describe how sad I feel at a life over far too early. RIP Monty. — Craig Button (@CraigJButton) February 15, 2015

I am sick to my stomach right now to learn of the death of former Sabres D Steve Montador. He was 35 years young

— SabresBuzz (@SabresBuzz) February 15, 2015

Terrible news about Steve Montador. Talked openly and candidly about the difficulties he had with concussions and depression in 2013.
