Toronto Sceptres Defeat Boston Fleet 4-2

The Boston Fleet hosted the Toronto Sceptres on Wednesday, March 26, for their second-to-last matchup of the 2024-25 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. The Sceptres won 4-2 and with this victory, they take the season series.

Game Recap

Early in the first period, Sidney Morin took a seat for hooking. Eleven minutes later, Blayre Turnbull was called for interference. With a minute left on the Boston power play, they took advantage. Susanna Tapani took a shot on net that was blocked by Kristen Campbell. Alina Muller recovered the rebound and took a shot. Hilary Knight was in front of the net and tipped the puck into the net to open the scoring for the Fleet.

Twelve minutes into the second period, Renata Fast was called for hooking. The Fleet were unable to repeat their earlier success in the first period.

Four minutes into the third, the Sceptres began finding their stride. Kali Flanagan took a shot on net that was blocked by Aerin Frankel. Daryl Watts picked up the rebound. She took the shot from behind the net, and it bounced in off Frankel’s pad.

Two minutes later, the game was no longer tied. Turnbull had the puck by the blue line and took a shot. Anna Kjellbin tipped the puck towards the net, but Frankel blocked it. Hayley Scamurra skated up to the front of the net and tipped the rebound into the net. With this goal, she scored her first of the season.

Five minutes after the second goal, the Sceptres tallied another. Renata Fast skated the puck around the net. When she hit the faceoff dot, she took a shot on the net that somehow slipped through the crease.

At the 12-minute mark, Tapani passed the puck around the boards for Knight. She skated around the back of the net and with a wrap-around shot, she tucked it past Kristen Campbell to score the second goal of the night for the Fleet.

The Sceptres did not let the Fleet catch up, though. Megan Keller took a seat for holding with five minutes left in the game. A minute later, the Sceptres scored their second power-play goal. Hannah Miller passed the puck to Watts in the center of the ice. She took a shot and scored the fourth goal of the night. With that, the Sceptres took the victory, 4-2.

The Fleet will host the Ottawa Charge on Saturday, March 29. The Sceptres will head to Minnesota, where they will take on the Frost on Sunday, March 30.
