The Tampa Bay Lightning were founded in 1992 by a group led by NHL legend Phil Esposito. The team’s first game was played on Oct. 7, 1992, versus the Chicago Blackhawks and resulted in a 7-4 victory. Throughout its history, the team has reached the playoffs 15 times and won three Stanley Cups—2004, 2020, and 2021. They have reached two additional Stanley Cup Finals, once in 2015 and again in 2022. They are one of the NHL’s most successful franchises the 2010s and 2020s.

Lightning Start Strong to Defeat Panthers in Game 4 to Avoid Elimination

Steven Stamkos and Brandon Hagel scored twice as the Tampa Bay Lightning held off the Florida Panthers 6-3 on Saturday (April 27) to avoid being eliminated and forcing a Game 5 in the NHL Playoff series. The Panthers now lead the series 3-1. The Lightning’s win also ended the Panthers’ nine straight road playoff games against the Eastern Conference opponents. Steven Stamkos Records 100th Career Playoff Point

Steven Stamkos reached a playoff milestone when he opened scoring with a power play goal in game four of the First Round. He recorded his 100th career playoff point. He becomes the 57th player to ever reach the mark. Stamkos has been the backbone of the Lightning during this playoff series against the Florida Panthers. He’s had a goal in all four games. Lightning’s Mikhail Sergachev Returning From Injury vs Panthers

In Game 4 of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s first-round series with the Florida Panthers, one in which they trail 3-0, a nice story is developing around defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. He suffered a significant injury on Feb. 7, 2024, having to be stretchered off of the ice. Sergachev fractured his tibia and fibula in that game, and the surgery he got on it soon after meant it was unlikely for him to play hockey again in 2023-24.
