3 Reasons Joel Armia Could Take a Step in Year 2 With the Kings

When the Los Angeles Kings signed Joel Armia in free agency, the move brought depth to their lineup, one that would improve the penalty kill and give the organization another dependable veteran capable of playing in challenging circumstances. By the end of his first season in Southern California, however, the 6-foot-3 Finnish winger had become much more than a bottom-six forward. He earned the trust of the coaching staff, saw his role expand throughout the season, and quietly established himself as one of the team’s most reliable players.

The Case for the Finnish Native Taking Another Step

Now entering his second season with the organization, Armia is well positioned to build on that success. The adjustment period is behind him, and he has a firm grasp and knowledge of the Kings’ system, and the coaching staff has a clear understanding of what the veteran forward brings to the lineup. He has always been at his best when he uses his strength to protect the puck along the boards, keep plays alive in the offensive zone, and create chances through hard work. If he continues to play with skilled forwards throughout the season, there is a good chance his offensive numbers will improve. Armia’s penalty-killing ability remains one of his biggest strengths as his long reach, active stick, and awareness make him effective while shorthanded. The 2025-26 season proved Armia was an excellent fit in Los Angeles. The upcoming season presents an opportunity for him to take another step forward. With a full season of experience in the Kings’ system and the opportunity to take on a larger role, Armia has a chance to put together one of the strongest seasons of his career while continuing to be a reliable contributor at both ends of the ice.
