Devils Sign Colin White to a 1-Year Deal

This morning, the New Jersey Devils announced that they have signed forward Colin White to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season. The deal is broken down as follows: $900,000 at the NHL level and $400,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level.

White was drafted 21st overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2015, playing a total of 224 games with the club during the first six seasons of his NHL career. Within the past four seasons, he has spent stints with the Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens, and the San Jose Sharks.

In 2024-25, he played just three games with the Sharks, spending the majority of the last two seasons with their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda. In 46 games, he tallied 21 goals and 27 assists last season. He also finished second in points for the Barracuda, with a career-high of 48. He became an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 1, following the end of his previous one-year deal, which carried a $775,000 cap hit.

Signing White marks yet another cap-friendly move by general manager (GM) Sunny Mehta in an effort to provide roster depth. Similarly, the organization re-signed defenseman Topias Vilen yesterday, also to a one-year deal.

For the upcoming season, White is expected to debut with the Utica Comets in the AHL, but could be called up in the event of injury. Other important aspects of his game include his two-way play and strong shooting abilities, which could come in handy for New Jersey at some point this season.

White offers veteran experience, versatility, and sound defensive efforts. He’s struggled to earn a full-time NHL role in the past, so having the opportunity to prove himself with the Devils marks an important step in his career.
