Kraken Recall Forward Jacob Melanson From Coachella Valley

On Thursday, Jan. 22, the Seattle Kraken recalled forward Jacob Melanson from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. In addition to this move, they have placed forward Ben Meyers on injured reserve (IR).

Melanson was called up earlier this season by the Kraken and played his first game on Dec. 14. He has played a total of 15 games so far and recorded four points, including one goal and three assists. He recorded his first NHL assist on Dec. 29 and then two more in the two games prior. In the game that followed, on Jan. 5, he scored his first NHL goal. He played four more games before he was sent back down to Coachella Valley. Since he returned to the Firebirds, Melanson played in three games and recorded two assists.

Meyers has played in 31 games with the Kraken this season and recorded 11 points via five goals and six assists. He just recorded a huge assist on Vince Dunn’s goal against the New York Islanders on Jan. 21. He finished out the game last night, spending a total of 14:54 on the ice. He has been a major asset to the fourth line, and his absence will be felt. Luckily, Melanson also had a huge impact on the fourth line while he was on the team. Let’s hope he can pick up right where he left off. He will likely slot into the fourth line again with Ryan Winterton and Frederick Gaudreau.

The Kraken will host the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, Jan. 23.
