With the 11th pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, the St. Louis Blues have selected Tynan Lawrence from Boston University of the NCAA.
About Tynan Lawrence
Tynan Lawrence’s main strengths lie in his hockey IQ, work ethic and compete level. He also has a lot of speed in his arsenal, along with a strong two-way game. His size at 6-foot-0.5, 183 pounds is also decent enough for an NHL center and should see him make a living as a top-nine pivot in the future.
Lawrence started his draft year in the United States Hockey League (USHL) as captain of the Muskegon Lumberjacks. He was dominant in the 13 games he played, scoring 10 goals and 17 points, before moving on to the NCAA with Boston University. He got off to a slow start, but turned it up towards the end of the season, notching a goal and five points in his final five games. He also turned heads at the U18 World Championship with Team USA, recording points in all but one game, finishing with two goals and six points in five games.
THW Prospect Profile Excerpt
“Lawrence’s intelligence, compete and work ethic hasn’t missed a beat since transitioning to college. He displays that winning mindset every time he steps on the ice. He’s not flashy, but it’s the little things he does that stands out. He has great attention to detail, is always in the right place at the right time positionally, displays strong hockey sense and the ability to step up and anticipate plays. Even though the points haven’t been there, he does a great job to generate and create plays; be it off rush chances, cycle plays or setting up a forecheck in the attacking zone. He plays a power game, but is a facilitator and creator when he’s on the ice and the results show.

“Lawrence provides great awareness and support with his play off the puck. He has great habits defensively, helping on backchecks, taking away passing lanes to intercept plays and showing the physicality and mindset to win battles to regain possession. He’s unrelenting when it comes to puck battles as he will do whatever it takes to get control of the puck. He doesn’t cheat on plays and doesn’t force anything if it isn’t there, showing great patience and timing.
“Lawrence is a very smooth and agile skater, showing great speed and control in transition. He can look to getting quicker with his first few steps, when he does reach his top speed, he’s extremely tough to contain and hold back. He’s always pushing to the middle with his playmaking, feathering pucks on odd-man rushes and getting pucks off in high traffic situations. He has a strong shot and release and does a good job to work give-and-go plays in order to be a finishing option. He’s always attacking the middle in order to get those great looks and release shots when he can.”

How This Affects the Blues’ Plans
The Blues did well drafting Lawrence at this point in the draft. In a class that isn’t deep with centers, he represents a good bet to be at the very least a checking-line center that can be matched up against the opposition’s best players. His smarts and skating alone should make him a very valuable part of the Blues in the future, especially for a franchise that just traded a similar player in Brayden Schenn.
