Blues Draft Maddox Dagenais 16th Overall

With the 16th pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, the St. Louis Blues have selected Maddox Dagenais from the Québec Remparts of the Québec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

About Maddox Dagenais

After being the second overall pick in the 2024 QMJHL Draft, Maddox Dagenais took his game to another level in the 2025-26 season. His two-way and offensive games made him a point-per-game player for the Québec Remparts, and he stands out as a pest to play against. While his numbers did not show it at the Under-18 World Junior Championship (WJC) with Canada, where he had only two points in five games, Dagenais further proved that he can play at a high rate and be impactful even when his offensive production may not show it.

With the two-way game and pestiness in his game, Dagenais has the makings of being a player who can make a difference at both ends of the ice at the NHL level down the road.

THW Prospect Profile Excerpt

“Whenever Dagenais steps on the ice, he instantly becomes a bull in a china shop with his strong competitive drive and energy. He quickly attacks with his speed and agility as he moves extremely well for his frame, getting in on the attack quickly, challenging defenders head on and pushing his way to the open ice. He’s physical and isn’t afraid to show making some big-time hits and show his dominance.”

“Offensively, Dagenais has shown that he can be a playmaker, but it’s his goal scoring and shot that are trademarks to his game. He has an insane and swift release and has the accuracy to pick corners easily. He does a great job of getting to the shooting lanes for those prime scoring chances and has a heavy one-timer shot as well.”

How This Affects the Blues’ Plans

Dagenais brings some dangerous offensive skills to the Blues’ system, but will likely not be rushed to the NHL. The Blues have been known for a philosophy of letting their prospects develop and ensuring they are fully ready before making their way to the NHL. When Dagenais does make his way to the NHL, he could slot very easily into a top-six role with the Blues and bring plenty of goal-scoring and all-around play to the lineup.
