Travis Hamonic Injured Thursday

New York Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic may miss some time after suffering an injury in Thursday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

While moving the puck out of the defensive zone, Hamonic took a hit from Jackets’ forward Scott Hartnell. The hit saw the pair go knee-on-knee, sending Hamonic to the ice cradling his knee. However, that didn’t stop him from playing out his shift before heading down the tunnel to the locker room.

After he went down the tunnel he was ruled out of the remainder of the game with what the team termed a lower-body injury.

An injury to Hamonic, one of the team’s best defenders, would be devastating. The Islanders are clinging to a playoff spot with a lot of movement still possible in the Eastern Conference. If it’s an absence that stretches into the postseason it could seriously hamper the team’s playoff ambitions with starting goaltender Jaroslav Halak out for the remainder of the regular season and his first-round playoff availability in question.
