Devils Sign Matyas Melovsky to 2-Year, Entry-Level Contract

The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Matyas Melovsky to a two-year, entry-level contract, which will begin in 2026-27, the team announced on Monday. The Devils selected Melovsky 171st overall in the sixth round of the 2024 NHL Draft. In April, he signed a one-year contract with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL), and the 21-year-old has been a good addition to the team through his first season in North America.

In 35 AHL games, he has scored three goals and 10 assists. Before signing with the Comets, the Czech native played for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Across three seasons with Drakkar, he put up 201 points, including a career-high of 83 (26 goals, 57 assists) in 2024-25.

He has also represented Czechia on the global stage, participating in the IIHF’s U18 World Championship in 2022 and the U20 World Championship in 2024, where he earned a bronze medal after leading the tournament in assists.

As he continues to develop his game, the hope is that Melovsky will become a depth scorer for the Devils. He has already proven himself as a skilled playmaker, capable of playing both center and on the wing, and could be a welcome boost to their offense.

He has also gained recognition for his strong two-way play, which would complement the Devils’ roster and structure. He continues to be an important member of the organization’s prospect pipeline and could very well see some ice time next season.
