Jason Demers to Have Player Safety Hearing

Dallas Stars defenseman Jason Demers will have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety following an elbowing call against the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Nick Bonino.

Demers received a game misconduct in Thursday’s game for the elbowing infraction.

This will be the 27-year-old’s first run-in with the DoPS over his 368 game career.

You can watch the hit below, where Bonino comes into the corner with Demers already in there. Demers throws his elbow back and drives it into Bonino’s face, who was clearly in some pain and was shaken up. It looks like Demers was trying to hit Bonino, but it’s not clear that the elbow to the face was the intention as much as a sort of exploding shoulder type of defensive hit, even though he throws the elbow.

Bonino will likely be going through the league’s concussion protocol after that hit.
