The Winnipeg Jets defeated the St. Louis Blues 2-1 Monday evening at Canada Life Centre to take a 2-0 lead in the Round 1 series.

Kyle Connor’s early third-period goal stood up as the game winner. Mark Scheifele also scored for the Jets, while Jimmy Snuggerud tallied the Blues’ lone goal.

Game Recap

The first period was fast and physical, with each team generating some good chances early and trying to set the tone after the surly end to Game 1 the Jets took 5-3. Most notably, Logan Stanley rocked Jordan Kyrou with a big hit and a few minutes later, Blue captain Brayden Schenn dished out a big one of his own on Jets’ captain Adam Lowry.

After two failed first-period power plays, the Jets opened the scoring at 16:32 when Scheifele drove the net and while attempting to get the puck on goal, banked it off Snuggerud’s skate and through Jordan Binnington.

However, Snuggerud redeemed himself by scoring on the power play with just 1.7 seconds remaining in the frame, ripping one short side on Connor Hellebuyck, to draw the game even.

The second period went by goalless as Binnington and Hellebuyck each stopped the seven shots they faced. The Blues had two further power-play opportunities, but the Jets killed them both off.

The Jets retook the lead 1:43 into the third when Connor scored his second third-period go-ahead goal in as many games, taking a perfect centering pass from Cole Perfetti from behind the net and rifling the puck in.
