Declan Schroeder is a 23-year-old freelance journalist in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He holds a diploma in Creative Communications with a major in journalism from Red River College. A lifelong Winnipegger, he's deeply rooted in the city's hockey culture. He's been a beat writer for a high school team, a public address guy, a sports columnist for a school newspaper, and written for TSN 1290. The original Jets skipped town when he was only 2, so he latched onto the Maple Leafs pretty hard throughout his childhood and teen years — he's only semi-reformed. It took him a while to warm up to the Jets 2.0, and when the Jets and Leafs play each other these days, he cheers for the game to go to overtime. His favourite player growing up was Darcy Tucker and his favourite player now is Mark Scheifele. An upgrade? You decide.
