New York Riveters Announce Practice Squad Players

The NWHL’s New York Riveters have announced five practice players who will join the team for the 2016-17 season. Each team can have up to six practice players, which are not salaried roster spots.

Headlining the group are Gabie Figueroa and Taylor Holze, both of whom were with the team last year. Figueroa, a roster player last season, was the embodyment of coach Chad Wiseman’s grinding system. She played 18 games with the team last season, recording one goal.

Holze, a practice player last year, played seven games and recorded an assist, but looked at times like one of the best players on the team’s anemic offense. Particularly as the season wore on, she had some nice games for the offensively-starved Riveters.

Also joining the team are defenseman Rebecca Morse, forward Julia Herr and goaltender Sarah Bryant.

Both Bryant and Morse are coming over from Providence College. Bryant finished her collegiate career in the spring with a .877 save percentage. Morse graduated in 2014 and put up 16 goals and 45 assists in 135 career collegiate games.

Herr is also a recent graduate, playing at Trinity College where she put up 82 points in 90 games throughout her career.

The Riveters have one more practice player roster spot available and will be holding a tryout to fill the role.
