Seth Jarvis’ Injury Creates Perfect Opportunity for Hurricanes to Audition Bradly Nadeau

As the Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes turn their attention to next season, many are discussing what might happen this offseason. The biggest question mark is Seth Jarvis‘ lingering injury. We’ve known for a couple of years that Jarvis is dealing with a shoulder issue that requires surgery, and unfortunately, rehab has not worked effectively.

Jarvis opted out of surgery in the summer of 2025, hoping to represent Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics. He did that, but now the Hurricanes need their young, budding star to be healthy. How can Carolina cope with losing a key cog of their top line? Well, the answer is one we’ve visited before.

Carolina’s Young Star

The Hurricanes have Bradly Nadeau. Fresh off a run to the Calder Cup Final with the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves, Carolina’s top prospect has been chomping at the bit for an NHL roster spot for a couple of seasons. If Jarvis elects to undergo surgery, it should open up an opportunity for the team to try the 2023 first-round pick in the top six. He’s long been labelled a long-term solution to Carolina’s scoring issues, but he’s also got a unique skillset to bring to the top of the lineup.

The Hurricanes are not going to find anyone who brings what Jarvis does. There are no internal options to replace a player who scores 30 goals and 70 points. However, Nadeau offers a possible secondary scoring solution to boost the team’s offense in Jarvis’ absence.

With the Wolves, Nadeau tallied 27 goals and 29 assists in 54 games. He played 12 games on the fourth line with the Hurricanes and recorded three goals. He has the offensive instincts to be a success within the team’s system, scoring at that rate on the fourth line. A player who can put the puck in the net at a high rate is what the team has been lacking for almost a decade.

Nadeau’s NHL Audition

The Hurricanes are still looking for additions to the forward core. Carolina won just two games in the postseason when they gave up more than two goals. Nadeau could help solve that problem. At least giving him a trial run should work for both parties, providing an immediate assessment of the player in an elevated role if Jarvis misses time.

If he performs well, the Hurricanes will have an extra scoring option to round out their overwhelming four-line pressure attack. Nadeau could also be a great complementary piece on a third line that could use more scoring threats. Jordan Staal might be beloved on that line, but he cannot be expected to continue scoring at the rate he did in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final.

If Nadeau struggles and isn’t a fit, he could become a valuable trade asset to continue strengthening the roster where management feels it is weak. He is Carolina’s top prospect and continues to develop well, so the organization will not have a hard time moving him should the need arise. But this is the perfect opportunity to test him out before committing.

The point is moot if Jarvis continues to opt for rehab instead of surgery. He’s performed pretty well with his shoulder, given the state it’s currently in. As the Hurricanes continue their preparations for the new season, giving Nadeau a real look is worth considering. Again, the regular season will mean almost nothing as long as the team makes the playoffs, but Nadeau has earned a chance to prove himself, even if the measurement for success will begin in April.
