Know An AHL Team: Syracuse Crunch

There are 30 AHL member clubs, affiliated with 30 NHL teams.  Here we take a look, a snapshot if you will, at those cities and teams that makeup the American Hockey League.  Let’s take a look at the Syracuse Crunch.

Since 1994, the city of Syracuse has been home to the Crunch.  In that time the Crunch have a franchise record of 626-609-96-69-36.  Beginning in 2012-13, Syracuse will be home to the top prospects of the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Before Syracuse, the Lightning housed their top prospects in Norfolk.  Syracuse has one division title and ten trips to the playoffs, in its franchise history.  Prior to affiliating with the Lightning, the Crunch were a top farm club for Anaheim, Columbus, Pittsburgh and Vancouver.  Crunchman is back in the Salt City.

Long before the Crunch brought the AHL back to Syracuse, the city had some deep roots in the AHL.  There were the Calder Cup winning Syracuse Stars of 1936-37.  They were followed by the short-lived Warriors, Eagles and Firebirds.
