On Monday, April 7, the Seattle Kraken took on the Los Angeles Kings. Both teams had one win to their name previously in the season series. The Kraken took the victory here, 2-1, and now lead the season series.
Game Recap
Quinton Byfield won the faceoff against Shane Wright just before the two-minute mark of the first period. The puck went to Alex Laferriere, who in turn passed to Kyle Burroughs. Burroughs took a shot, and with one hand, Byfield batted the puck down in front of him. Still with one hand, Byfield gained control of the puck and took the shot. With this impressive feat, Byfield put the Kings up on the scoreboard first.
With a minute and a half left in the period, the Kings tried to get the puck into their offensive zone, but the Kraken kept it in theirs. Kaapo Kakko sent a pass across the ice for Jamie Oleksiak, who took a shot. The puck found Matty Beniers in front, and he tipped it into the net to tie the game.

At 19:08, both Jared McCann and Brandt Clarke took a seat for roughing. Although both teams were down a man, Seattle found success on the 4-on-4. On a 3-on-2 drive up to Seattle’s offensive zone, Jordan Eberle sent the puck across the ice for Brandon Montour. Montour took the shot and extended the Kraken’s lead less than a minute after Beniers’ goal.
Despite 20 shots on net for the Kraken and 18 shots for the Kings in the second and third periods, neither team scored again in this game. Thanks to Montour’s tie-breaking goal with 30 seconds left in the first period, the Kraken came away with the 2-1 victory.
