After a slow start to the 2025-26 season, Carolina Hurricanes’ Andrei Svechnikov has been on a point-per-game run over the last 59 games. The Russian has returned to his dynamic power-forward role which the Hurricanes drafted him for back in 2018.
That said, how huge has he been for head coach Rod Brind’Amour’s side over the course of the season?
“Mista” Svechnikov is Officially Back
So far this season, Svechnikov has 25 goals, 34 assists, and 59 points in 67 games. The last time he had a 60-plus-point season was in 2021-22, when he finished with 69. His only other 60-point season in 2019-20, when he tallied 61. It’s a foregone conclusion that this season will be the third time he will eclipse 60 points but with 15 games remaining, he may be able to reach 70 for the first time.

There is a good chance the Hurricanes rest some of their main guys when they get closer to the start of the playoffs. Svechnikov’s best season was 2021-22, where he set career highs in goals (30), assists (39), and 69 points. He is not far off from those numbers and is five goals and five assists away from tying his current highs. There is a solid chance of him achieving this milestone considering he has 59 points in his last 59 games.

After starting the season with no points through his first eight games, Svechnikov has been on a run that resembles what he did for the Hurricanes before tearing his ACL in 2022-23. After getting surgery, it was a slow return to the power-forward play-style the Hurricanes needed in their lineup.
He finished with 52 points in 2023-24 and 48 in 2024-25, but it seemed like Svechnikov was still trying to take it easy on his knee after his first major injury. There was a sense that 2025-26 could see his decline continue. However, that was not the case as he has been one of the best players on the roster since Oct. 28, when he scored his first goal of the season. Since then, Svechnikov has been dialled in on the top line with Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis.

Svechnikov is second on the team in goals (behind Jarvis, who has 28), assists (behind Aho, who has 44), and points (Aho-68). This has been the best season for Svechnikov in a while, and he has the potential to set career highs across the board, even with his slow start. He’s been the player the Hurricanes have needed him to be as they aim to get over the hump.
As we get closer to the postseason, the Hurricanes will need Svechnikov to keep producing as he has if they want to reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2006. They’ve made the Eastern Conference Final twice in the last three seasons, and could be in store for another deep playoff run. Svechnikov is of those guys who will be a catalyst to reach their ultimate goal. If he can manage to continue his recent 59-points-in-59-games run in the playoffs, we could be in store for something big for not only Svechnikov, but the Hurricanes as a whole. One thing is for certain: Svechnikov is back.
