Brantford Bulldogs defenseman Vladimír Dravecký has accomplished a lot in his hockey career even before becoming draft eligible for the first time. He’s already played competitively in multiple countries while representing Czechia on the international stage. He’s appeared in Sweden’s top league. But then he decided to come to North America to continue his development.

The Bulldogs took Dravecký in the first round of the 2025 CHL Import Draft. Just over two months later, the Bulldogs signed him to an OHL agreement. After playing in Czechia, Slovakia and Sweden, he now had the chance to play in the CHL while getting an opportunity to play on the smaller ice surface. He also got the chance to play under respected coach and former NHL defenseman Jay McKee.
It was easy to see what Dravecký brought to the table. He brought mobility to the Bulldogs’ blueline. He also brought an intriguing offensive skill set that showed off why many felt he was a possible first-round pick at the 2026 NHL Draft. Early on, he played big minutes while adjusting to the North American game. As the season wore on, his offensive tools started to manifest. He would make plays, join the rush and when given the chance, use his shot to his advantage.
But then in the playoffs with a more loaded Bulldogs roster, Dravecký found himself lower in the lineup or even out of the lineup. He appeared in just 11 of the 15 playoff games the Bulldogs played. With players like Adam Jiricek and Ben Danford playing in the top-four, that forced Dravecký to play on the third pair. He recorded three points in those 11 games with a reduced role. It has led to some questions about his overall game and the defensive improvement he needs to show.

Teams that draft Dravecký will see the high-upside offense he brings to the table. More often than not, teams have to draft right-handed, mobile, offensive defensemen. It’s possible a team reaches for him if they believe the offensive upside is high enough and if they have confidence in their ability to develop the rest of his game. Given his appearance in the OHL Top Prospects Game and occasional highlight reel plays he made, someone is going to take an earlier chance on a player like Dravecký. There is some top-four potential in there if a team is able to get the best out of him.

Vladimír Dravecký – NHL Draft Projection
Expect to hear Dravecký’s name called in the middle rounds. His combination of skating and offensive prowess already has the attention of several teams. Teams that believe in the upside could swing at the end of the first round.
Quotables
“Vlad is a dynamic player who’s a great skater, has great hands and great agility. I’m excited at the opportunity for our group to help take Vlad to the next level.” –Bulldogs HC Jay McKee
“A slight right-shot defenceman, Dravecký is a mobile and smart puck moving defenceman, who possesses an active stick and some two-way capabilities.” –Dobber Prospects
“A mobile, modern defenseman, Dravecký stands out for his skating and offensive instincts. He’s a fluid mover who generates speed through quick edge work and efficient transitions. He’s confident carrying pucks through the neutral zone, often leading controlled exits and joining the rush as a fourth forward.” –Felix Sicard, McKeen’s Hockey
“Dravecký is one of the draft’s most skilled and creative defenders IMO. He’s got quick feet and soft hands and he routinely carves up the neutral zone to help advance play up ice for the Bulldogs. Yeah, he’ll turn the puck over; he can take liberties with the puck. But with how often he’s successful at taking on defenders one on one and escaping pressure, you live with it. As the season has gone on, he’s cut down on the turnovers anyway. Dravecký is definitely someone that you’d classify as a high upside player. As a late born 2007, there’s less runway for physical improvements and that will be a concern for NHL scouts as they wonder how successful he’ll be in the defensive end at higher levels. But, I’ve found him to be more than adequate in the defensive end at the OHL level and that gives me enough hope that he can continue to get better and leverage his skills to be an NHL defender.” –Brock Otten, OHL Prospects
