With Halloween right around the corner, zombie James van Riemsdyk (pictured above) helps take a look at the best NHL Halloween costumes around the league this year.
The Capitals Get Strange
Alex Ovechkin as Batman.
That’s Evgeny Kuznetsov as Harry Potter in there and Dmitry Orlov as Bugs Bunny.
T.J. Oshie, maybe hoping that David Backes will come and rescue him, with Lauren, his wife, as Cruella Deville.
Brooks Laich and Andre Burakovsky as a Disney duo.
There was some good weirdness in there, but Michael Latta and Tom Wilson win the Capitals’ costume contest for their very homemade Chuck and Wilson.

Erik Karlsson
Erik Karlsson bought out Ricky’s supply of purple body paint for this one. (What’s Canadian Ricky’s?) He went as Ursula from The Little Mermaid.
It’s not a Colton Haynes-level Ursula, but Karlsson may have fewer friends who work in wardrobe. Maybe.
The Struggling Avengers
There is always a line between the complete commitment — P.K. Subban as Michael Jackson in “Thriller,” Ursula Karlsson, T.J. Oshie about to become a coat — and when players don some goofy get-ups and head to local children’s hospitals on Halloween.
That’s what four members of the Flames did when they got dressed up as The Avengers this week.

That’s Josh Jooris as Fabio Thor, Michael “Week-to-Week” Ferland as Hulk, Sam “Actually Canadian” Bennett as Captain America, and Dougie Hamilton as Bobblehead Iron Man.
When You’ve Got a Tall Guy
Like the Flames, some Bruins spent some time dressing up for a Children’s Hospital. They have that great situation where you’re going to dress up as a group and you’ve got one really tall guy that you can use to your advantage.
The Bruins went with a sort of deflated Gnu (Zdeno Chara) and his Minions. Probably a pretty good choice given the situation. Tuukka Rask’s minion outfit is particularly good.

Oompa Tootoo
Speaking of commitment to the costume, Jordin Tootoo.
Goalies Wish
Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, and Jason Demers got out some guide canes and went as three blind mice.
Squad going…… I don't know. #3blindmice @jasondemers5 @jamiebenn14 pic.twitter.com/4VQlXLBsKT

Jordie Benn also had his costume posted. It’s less specific, but also confusing.
Slow Start Wearing on Leafs
The Leafs slow start to the season has aged Jonathan Bernier and his fiancé Martine Forget.
It has also done terrible things to Brad Boyes.

Hall & Otts
Taylor Hall’s Zipperface is pretty good.

Steve Ott as Jared Leto’s Joker from the upcoming Suicide Squad movie is creepy, but maybe for the wrong reasons. His wife Erica’s Harley Quinn costume is pretty well done.
Also, is Ott messing with Wild fans’ #LaughAtOtt campaign from the postseason?

Strange Bruin
Boston Bruins prospect Linus Arnesson and friend as Marge Simpson and a local broadcaster.
h/t to @myregularface
Kessel’d
He should have been a hot dog. Just saying.
Costumes Past
Here’s a look at a few great costumes from years past.
One of the great NHLer costumes was P.K. Subban’s Michael Jackson from “Thriller” costume.

Though he had competition on his own team, with David Desharnais doing a pretty solid Heath Ledger Joker.

Also happening last year was the very weird Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles starring Brenden Dillon, Cody Eakin, Jamie Benn, and Tyler Seguin. It wasn’t great, but wasn’t worse than the new movies.

The Wild’s Young Guns, Mikael Granlund, Charlie Coyle, and Nino Niederreiter as fighter pilots. Are they too young to know that they could turn this into a Top Gun thing?

I’ll end it on a few Halloween stories that @NHLhistorygirl has posted over the years. (Follow her. Required reading on her feed.)
#Whalers Kevin Dineen swpied all of his teammates' underwear, then showed up at the team Halloween party dressed as a clothesline.

There's a story that when Robin Lehner first joined the #Sens he was confused by Halloween and just handed kids loose handfuls of Skittles.
