Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis suffered a scary injury Wednesday, taking a Dan Boyle slapshot to the face.
The play started with an unaided turnover on the goal line by Hamhuis with just over seven minutes left in the game. The Rangers recovered the puck and moved it out to the point quickly for Boyle to take a shot.
Hamhuis got up relatively quickly from the injury, pouring blood onto the ice. Hamhuis went to the locker room assisted by trainers, but was taken from there on a stretcher, according to Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy.
Little in the way of an update was given following the game, but coach Willie Desjardins said in his post-game press conference that Hamhuis “lost some teeth and probably broke his jaw. His wife was with him when he left; he’ll spend the night in the hospital.”

Vancouver would go on to with the game 2-1, with the only New York Rangers goal coming off a Boyle penalty shot.
Hamhuis has no goals and four assists through 27 games this season.
