Anaheim Ducks forward Nate Thompson has a date with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Monday, the DoPS announced Saturday.
The hearing comes for an illegal check to the head on Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk early in the first period of Friday’s game.
Thompson was given a five-minute major penalty for elbowing and a game misconduct for the hit, leaving the Ducks down a man for the majority of the game.
Faulk stayed in the game and does not appear to have any lingering effects from the hit at the moment.

The long delay between game and hearing is a result of the Ducks not having a game for nearly an entire week. They’re back in action on Thursday on the road against the Buffalo Sabres. The delay gives the DoPS a little more time to see if Faulk winds up with any concussion-like symptoms, since injury to the opposing player has an impact on suspension length.
Thompson has no goals and two assists through four games this season.
