Barely back from the 2016 World Junior Championships and Swiss forward Timo Meier has been dealt from the Halifax Mooseheads to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Meier, selected ninth overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2015 draft, has had a strong year for Halifax, scoring 11 goals and 36 points in 23 games.
He’ll be headed to a Huskies squad that is looking to tool-up for the playoffs and currently sit at second in the West Division, just one point back from Val-d’Or and have two games in hand.
Headed the other way is first and second round pick in the 2017 draft, as well as a fourth round pick in the 2018 draft.
Meier probably didn’t hurt his value any when he put in a good performance at World Juniors as the captain of the Swiss team. They wound up in the relegation games during the knockout round, but only because of a strong performance from Denmark. The Swiss ultimately avoided relegation and Meier posted two goals and five points in seven games.
The trade does not effect his status with the San Jose Sharks.
