The trades continue ahead of the February 29th NHL Trade Deadline as the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators have agreed to a seven-player deal on Saturday night.
The Sabres have acquired forwards Alex Guptill, Eric O’Dell and Cole Schneider, as well as defenseman Michael Sdao from Ottawa in exchange for forwards Jason Akeson and Phil Varone and defenseman Jerome Leduc.
Ottawa will also receive a conditional draft pick.
All of the players involved in the trade are AHL players, but the teams have swapped the points leaders from their respective AHL clubs. Schneider was leading the Binghamton Senators with 42 points — 17 goals, 25 assists — in 54 games while Varone led the Rochester Americans with 32 points — 13 goals, 19 assists — in 44 games.
O’Dell was leading Binghamton in goals with 18 this season while Sdao has two assists in 17 games in the AHL. On the other side of things, Akeson was second on Rochester in points with 30 while Leduc has seven goals and nine assists in 54 games this year.
Every player is expected to report to their new AHL franchise in the coming days.
