Report: Brandon Davidson To Get Two-Year Extension

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman, the Edmonton Oilers are set to announce a two-year extension for Brandon Davidson at some point today.

The 24 year old has played 47 games for the Oilers this season, producing four goals and six assists with a plus-6 rating.

Prior to joining the Oilers organization, Davidson played junior hockey with the Regina Pats of the WHL, and was named Pats Rookie of the Year during the 2009-10 season. He was named captain of the Pats during his final season of junior hockey in 2011-12.

During his first season of professional hockey with the Oklahoma City Barons, Davidson was diagnosed with testicular cancer after a regular checkup. He underwent surgery at the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Cancer Center in Oklahoma City, along with Chemotherapy.

He returned to professional hockey at the end of the 2012-13 season with the ECHL’s Stockton Thunder where he scored two goals and three assists in 26 games. He’s been a workhorse for the Barons and Oilers ever since.

Davidson made his NHL debut in December of the 2014-15 season, where he played four games with the Oilers.

He has a cap hit of $585,000 and is currently signed to a one-year standard contract with a value of $600,000 for Edmonton.

According to Sportsnet’s John Shannon, the two-year deal will pay Davidson $2.85 million.
