Robin Lehner Shut Down Following Surgery

The Buffalo Sabres have shut down goaltender Robin Lehner for the remainder of the season, the team announced Wednesday.

Lehner suffered a high-ankle sprain in the season opener — his first game with the Sabres — and missed significant time nursing himself back to health. Now, he’s been sidelined since March 16 with another injury to that same ankle.

Wednesday, Lehner underwent surgery to repair the ankle. That will put him on the shelf for what’s left of the season.

Despite injuries making it a frustrating year, Lehner had a successful first season with the Sabres, posting a .924 save percentage through 21 games.
