Blues’ Matvei Korotky Is Rookie of the Month in the KHL

St. Louis Blues prospect Matvei Korotky is having a terrific season with SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and was awarded KHL Rookie of the Month honors for the first time in his career in February. This came after a recent award as the KHL Rookie of the Week on Feb. 17.

Korotky scored six points through eight games in February, with four goals and two assists, ending the month with a plus-2 rating. He showed an edge with ten hits, two shots blocked, one pass interception, and two takeaways. The Blues’ 2024 seventh-round draft pick potted the game-winner in his team’s 5-3 win over the Severstal Cherepovets on Feb. 17.

Korotky just recently started playing full-time for SKA, starting the season in juniors. He now has seven points (four goals and three assists) in 22 games. SKA is the seventh seed in the Western Conference as the postseason approaches. Korotky’s linemate, Grigori Kuzmin (21 points in 37 games), is someone with whom he showcased significant chemistry. Korotky is under contract in the KHL until 2027.
