Dan Hamhuis Will Return, Yannick Weber Waived

The Vancouver Canucks are prepared to make a couple of moves on their blue line. The team will be getting top defenseman Dan Hamhuis back in the lineup on Saturday, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.

In response they have waived 27-year-old defender Yannick Weber who hasn’t been able to recreate his offensive success from last season.

Hamhuis suffered fractured bones in his face after getting hit with a shot from Dan Boyle on December 9. The injury forced him to miss 25 games.

In his absence the Canucks have gone 9-8-4 and are outside the playoff picture. In 27 games this season Hamhuis has no goals and four assists while averaging the third most ice time of any player on the team.

For his part, Weber has struggled to score this season after potting 11 goals last year. Through 35 games he has no goals and five assists. However, he’s done a decent job of driving play with a 1.05% score-adjusted CF%Rel. That’s the second best mark among team defensemen. His 48.89 shot attempts for per 60 minutes of even strength play is second best among all Vancouver defensemen and his 53.46 shot attempts against per 60 minutes ranks fifth among defensemen.
