Devils Make Second Round of Roster Cuts, Claim Poirier Off Waivers

The New Jersey Devils continued trimming their training camp roster on Sunday, making their second round of cuts ahead of the 2026-27 regular season.

New Jersey placed six more players on waivers, including three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender. The Devils also added goaltending depth by claiming Remi Poirier off waivers from the Dallas Stars.

Devils Place Six Players on Waivers

The Devils placed six players on waivers: forwards Marc McLaughlin, Riley Tufte and Colin White; defensemen Vladislav Kolyachonok and Topias Vilen; and goaltender David Rittich.

McLaughlin, Tufte and White were among the veteran forwards competing for depth roles throughout training camp. McLaughlin appeared in seven games for New Jersey last season, while Vilen also saw NHL action, appearing in two games. Both players were among the group competing for potential call-up opportunities this season.

Tufte and White joined the organization during the offseason on two-way contracts. Kolyachonok also signed a two-way deal with the Devils after spending time with the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins last season.

Rittich’s placement on waivers is particularly notable after the 33-year-old goaltender signed a one-year, $1 million contract with New Jersey during the offseason. He was brought in to provide additional competition and depth behind Jake Allen and Nico Daws.

Devils Claim Remi Poirier

The Devils also announced they added another goaltender, claiming Poirier off waivers from Dallas.

The 24-year-old netminder spent last season in the American Hockey League (AHL)  and was viewed as part of the Stars’ organizational goaltending depth. In his time last season with the Texas Stars, he posted a .912 save percentage (SV%) in 52 games.

Adding Poirier is an intriguing option for New Jersey as they now have another depth option for their AHL team and a solid call-up option should he be needed.

With Rittich now on waivers and Poirier joining the organization, the Devils’ goaltending depth chart is beginning to take shape. Allen and Daws remain the starting NHL tandem, while Poirier adds another option behind them as New Jersey continues to make its final roster decisions.

Opening Night Days Away

New Jersey entered training camp with 57 players, including 33 forwards, 18 defensemen and six goaltenders. After an initial round of cuts, the team is now focused on making the final decisions that will determine who remains with the NHL club when the regular season begins.

With opening night just four days away, the Devils are quickly approaching the deadline to finalize their roster. Teams must submit their opening-night rosters by 5 p.m. Monday, leaving New Jersey with limited time to make its final decisions. With six more players now exposed to waivers and Poirier joining the organization, the Devils are inching closer to their final roster for the upcoming season.
