At the 2026 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo on Saturday (June 27), the Edmonton Oilers drafted a pair of skaters from the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL): defenceman Andrew Robinson in the sixth round at 133rd overall, and forward Caden Harvey in Round 7 at the 180th overall.
It makes for a pretty good story, especially considering that the picks – Edmonton’s third and fourth of this year’s draft – were made less than an hour apart, as Robinson and Harvey went from major junior teammates to pro prospects in the same organization.
All About Andrew Robinson
A 6-foot blueliner who weighs in at 190 pounds, Robinson scored nine goals and dished out 15 assists in 63 games during the 2025-26 regular season, while raking second on the team with a plus-36 rating. He had two goals and six assists in 13 postseason games as Windsor advanced to the second round of the 2026 OHL Playoffs.

After being left off NHL Central Scouting’s midterm ranking of North American skaters for the 2026 NHL Draft, the 18-year-old appeared at 205th on the final ranking. Robinson, who hails from Oakville, Ont., has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey at Providence beginning in 2027-28.
Get to Know Caden Harvey
Harvey appeared in all 68 games for the Spitfires during the 2025-26 regular season, notching 11 goals and 23 assists to go with a plus-26 rating. The 18-year-old from Beaver, Penn., also played in every postseason contest for the Spitfires, totaling six points (three goals and three assists.)

The 6-foot-1, 183-pound centre dropped slightly on NHL Central Scouting’s ranking, appearing at 188th on the final ranking, 10 spots lower than his midterm position. Harvey is committed to Penn State for the 2027-28 NCAA Division 1 season.
Oilers Have Rarely Drafted Windsor Players
Before Saturday, Edmonton had selected just five players from Windsor during its previous 47 times taking part in the NHL Entry Draft. The most notable Spitfire to have his name called by the Oilers is winger Taylor Hall, the first-overall pick in 2010. Hall played six seasons with the Oilers before being traded to the New Jersey Devils in 2016.
Other Windsor players drafted by Edmonton include forwards Blair Barnes (126th overall in 1979), Shawn Babcock (48th overall in 1980), Steve Gibson (157th overall in 1992), and Peter Sarno (141st overall in 1997). Sarno suited up for just seven career NHL games (six with the Oilers), while Barnes played his lone career NHL game with the Los Angeles Kings. Gibson and Babcock never made it to the NHL.
Edmonton’s History of Drafting Teammates
Over their NHL history, the Oilers have selected players from the same team in the same year more than a dozen times. Edmonton even once selected three teammates – Devan Dubynk, Max Gordichuk and Roman Teslyuk – from the Western Hockey League’s Kamloops Blazers in 2004.
But only pair of players who were teammates before being drafted by Edmonton went on to also play games together with the Oilers: forwards Magnus Paajarvi and Anton Lander, who played for Swedish club Timra IK before being selected by Edmonton in the first and second round, respectively, at the 2009 NHL Draft.
The Oilers would be thrilled if Harvey and Robinson wind up playing together in Edmonton one day. Realistically, the chances aren’t great that a sixth- or seventh-round draft choice goes on to have a lengthy NHL career. But the future is yet to be written, and Harvey and Robinson have careers ahead of them, which they will continue next season with the Spitfires.
