Rankings

Kale Dach is an interesting player and may be someone who gets selected late in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, if he gets selected at all. He is an offensive juggernaut who has confidence with the puck on his stick and has been dominating the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Sherwood Park Crusaders, but teams may wait to see how he competes against tougher competition when he heads to the Western Hockey League (WHL) next season as he is committed to the Calgary Hitmen for the 2025-26 season.

Dach is also committed to playing in the NCAA with Penn State for the 2026-27 season and has seemingly caught the eye of some scouts at the NHL level. His offensive confidence, combined with his sound defensive play, make him an enticing prospect and a potentially exciting project if a team is willing to take him in the later rounds. Watching him live, his skating ability stands out as strong, but it needs some fine-tuning if he wants to translate his game to the professional level.

Through 54 games in the BCHL this season, Dach scored 22 goals and added 65 assists for 87 points, which comes out to an impressive 1.61 points-per-game average. Before making the jump to junior hockey, Dach played at the U17AAA level with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers in the 2022-23 season, where he scored 15 goals and added 31 assists for 46 points through 32 games. In the same season, he played six games at the U18AAA level, scoring one goal and adding one assist for two points.

Dach’s offensive confidence makes him a guarantee to attend a rookie camp with an NHL team this season, but being drafted might be a longshot. Next season should be a strong indicator as he makes the jump to the WHL, and if he can translate that same confidence with the puck on his stick, the Hitmen might have a future superstar on their hands.

Lastly, Dach’s shot selection is strong, and his ability to create opportunities for himself and his teammates makes him a strong player. While his defensive game is sound, finding more consistency at both ends and continuing to perfect his stride would make him someone that scouts wouldn’t be able to pass up.

Kale Dach – NHL Draft Projection

Dach being selected this season is not a guarantee by any means. If he does get selected, he will be drafted in the seventh round and be one of the last players to hear his name called. If he has a strong 2025-26 campaign with the Hitmen, I think his draft stock will rise for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, but if he’s getting selected this season, he is going to be one of the last players chosen.

Strengths

  • Offensive confidence
  • Passing
  • Natural playmaker
  • Finishing ability

Under Construction – Improvements to Make

  • Defensive consistency
  • Perfect skating stride
  • Willingness to battle in corners
  • Willingness to shoot, not over pass

NHL Potential

Dach would be a project player if selected this time around, but his potential, if he can grind his way to the NHL, is interesting. His natural playmaking ability makes it easy to think he could eventually become a middle-six forward on any team, but combining the rest of his skillset and the improvements he needs to make, I think his ceiling is a bottom-six offensive forward. At worst, he becomes a top-six forward at the American Hockey League (AHL) level and earns some games if injuries occur.

Risk-Reward Analysis

Risk – 4.75/5, Reward – 3/5

Fantasy Hockey Potential

Offense – 8.5/10, Defense – 6/10

Awards/Achievements

Dach had serious success at the AEHL U15AAA level in the 2021-22 season, where he had the most assists, most points, was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, and made the First All-Star Team. In the 2022-23 season, he was named to the AEHL U17 First All-Star Team. Lastly, in the 2024-25 season, he led the BCHL in assists.
