Kraken Sign Mackie Samoskevich to a 3-Year Contract

The Seattle Kraken have signed Mackie Samoskevich to a three-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $3.85 million.

Samoskevich was drafted 24th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2021 NHL Draft but didn’t make his debut until the 2023-24 season, when he played in seven games. He played his first full NHL season in 2024-25, playing 72 games and recording 31 points.

He recorded his first NHL point, an assist, on Oct. 17, 2024. On Oct. 26, he scored his first NHL goal against the New York Islanders. He also played in four postseason games and recorded one assist. Samoskevich remained in Florida last season, playing 77 games with 32 points, a career-high.

On June 21, the Panthers traded Samoskevich to the Kraken in exchange for a 1st-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a 2nd-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. The Kraken extended Samoskevich a qualifying offer before he became a free agent on July 1. Now, on the day free agency opens, the Kraken have signed him to a great contract.

Samoskevich will be a great addition to the Kraken. In his first full NHL season, he helped the Panthers win the Stanley Cup. He will be a great presence in the locker room to foster a winning culture. There is no denying the team has struggled throughout the past few seasons. Samoskevich is a young player with a lot of talent. By joining the Kraken, he will have more of an opportunity to grow and develop as a player.
