Mikko Koivu Sets Franchise Record for Games Played, Gets Tribute

In Sunday’s win over the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu set the record for most games played in a Wild sweater. His 744 career games with the Wild surpassed former Wild defenseman Nick Schultz’s 743 games.

The next closest player is Pierre-Marc Bouchard with 565 games. Niklas Backstrom’s 409 games is the most among active players outside of Koivu.

Koivu is the face of the young franchise as the team’s all-time leader in points (543), assists (386), shots (1,764) and multi-point games (122).

In response to his record-setting night the Wild offered an in-game tribute video that you can watch below.

After the game, Wild winger Charlie Coyle said of the video, “It gave me chills.”
