The Buffalo Sabres have signed 2014 2nd round draft pick (44th overall) Eric Cornel a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Friday.
Cornel is finishing his fourth season with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL. He serves as the team’s captain this season.
His Petes kicked off their postseason against the North Bay Battalion on Friday. He may join the Rochester Americans at the end of the season, should the Petes face an early elimination in the playoffs.
The 6-foot-2 forward hit career-high marks in goals (27) and assists (56) this season. Overall, he has played 265 OHL games, scoring 70 goals and 143 assists.
He played six games for Americans at the end of last season on an amateur tryout. He recorded a single assist.
