Toffoli Scores in Overtime to Lift Kings Past Golden Knights

LAS VEGAS — Tyler Toffoli scored 1:40 into overtime to lift the Los Angeles Kings past the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on Sunday night.

It marked the second straight night the Kings won in overtime after beating San Jose on Saturday. It was also the second consecutive night Vegas fell in overtime after losing at home to Montreal.

After Los Angeles goalie Calvin Petersen made a series of spectacular saves to start overtime, Toffoli caught the Golden Knights on a shift change and beat Marc-Andre Fleury on a breakaway with a wrist shot.

Michael Amadio, Alex Iafallo and Jeff Carter also scored for the Kings, and Petersen stopped 22 shots.

Tomas Nosek, Reilly Smith and Ryan Reaves scored for Vegas. Fleury, who started Saturday against Montreal, made 28 saves. Fleury faced 79 shots in the two games.

Los Angeles improved to 3-17-2 when opponents scores first, while Vegas dropped to 11-4-2 at home.

Carter put Los Angeles up 3-2 in the third when he snagged a rebound and caught Fleury away from the net for a power-play goal. The Kings, who rank last in the NHL with their road power play, have scored with a man advantage in three of their last four games — all on the road.

The Golden Knights answered with their own power-play goal when Reaves redirected Nate Schmidt’s shot from the point for his seventh of the season, tying his career high. Brandon Pirri picked up an assist as well, giving him a three-game point streak since being recalled from AHL’s Chicago.

After opening the season 0 for 16 on the power play in their first six games, the Golden Knights have scored with an extra man in 23 of their last 33 games (25 for 103, 24.2 per cent).
