Jets Claim Goaltender Clay Stevenson Off Waivers From Capitals

The Winnipeg Jets have claimed goaltender Clay Stevenson off waivers from the Washington Capitals.

The Jets were widely expected to claim one of the several goaltenders waived Sunday due to the Connor Hellebuyck trade demand and suspension saga that has rendered their goaltending depth thin behind offseason acquisition and now-starter Stuart Skinner.

Stevenson, 27, made four starts for the Capitals last season, posting a 3-1-0 record with a 2.00 goals against average (GAA) and a .921 save percentage (SV%). He spent the majority of the season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Hershey Bears, where he posted an 18-13-3 record with a 2.62 GAA and .912 SV%.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Albertan was undrafted but has posted strong numbers in the AHL in his career — a 63-39-1 record, 2.50 GAA, .909 SV%, and nine shutouts, all with Hershey — and was part of their 2024 Calder Cup-winning squad.

Stevenson is on the final year of a three-year contract with an $800,000 annual average value and will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The Jets begin their 2026-27 season on Friday, Oct. 2 when they host the Boston Bruins at Canada Life Centre.
