Joel Eriksson Ek Signs Deal With Minnesota

The Minnesota Wild have signed 2015 first round pick (20th overall) Joel Eriksson Ek to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced on Monday.

Via the team’s release, Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr said:

We’re excited to officially have Joel under contract… He’s a top young player with an exciting package of size, skill, hockey sense and character. We are committed to working with him in the development process and look forward to seeing him in a Wild uniform in the near future.

Eriksson Ek spent last season in Sweden playing for Färjestad in the SHL and for their junior team. At the SHL level he played 34 games, scoring four goals and two assists. At the junior level, Eriksson Ek scored 21 goals and 11 assists in 25 games, as well as five goals and five assists through six playoff games.

On the international stage, he represented Sweden in the 2015 U18 World Championship, scoring five goals and an assist in five games. He’s also represented Sweden at other levels, including at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament.

Eriksson Ek is currently attending the Minnesota Wild’s development camp, which concludes with a scrimmage on Tuesday.
