15 Years Of The Kings’ Grammy Trip

A road-heavy February, and sometimes late January, is nothing new to the Los Angeles Kings. Thanks to Staples Center hosting the Grammy Awards, the Kings have been pushed out and onto the road almost every season since 2000 in order to make room for the yearly award show.

In fact, since the year 2000, the Grammys have been hosted at Staples Center every year except for 2003 when Madison Square Garden in New York played host to the award show.

Since there was no 2004-05 NHL season, the Kings’ most recent Grammy trip marked the conclusion of trip number 15 for the organization. Now that number 15 is under the Kings’ belt, it’s as good a time as any to look back and go over what exactly the Kings have been through over the last 16 years.

Before we get started, some technical explanations.

Road games grouped before and after have been grouped into that year’s Grammy Trip. For example, in 2004, the Kings had two road games then a week off. The two road games prior to the trip have been added to that season’s trip. Also, the 2014 Stadium Series game between the Kings and Anaheim Ducks has been added to that year’s trip because although the Kings were technically the home team, the game was away from Staples Center.

Regarding total goals for and total goals against, if the Kings won or lost a game in overtime that goal for or against was added to that total. The imaginative goal for and against that accompanies shootout wins and losses, for the purposes of this post, has not been added to the totals.
