Larry Murphy was born on March 8, 1961, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. He was a towering defenseman, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds. He was chosen by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round (fourth overall) of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. Throughout his NHL career, Murphy played for six different NHL teams. He began his NHL journey with the Kings in the 1980-81 season, where he quickly established himself as a tough blueliner. After three seasons with the Kings, he joined the Washington Capitals in the middle of the 1983-84 season. There he continued to excel defensively…

Goalie Eamon McAdam Shining in EIHL & 3ICE

Philadelphia’s Spectrum is one of the most famous buildings in sports history, as this arena hosted some of the biggest teams, athletes, and events in Philadelphia and international sports during its run from 1967 to 2009. For hockey fans, this venue will always be associated with some of the greatest Philadelphia Flyers teams in franchise history. Two Stanley Cup-winning teams, with names like Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent, and Bill Barber played before roaring crowds of Philadelphians.  Over 3,500 miles away, “across the pond,” there stands another Spectrum. Although far less famous than its American cousin, the Guildford Spectrum is adored…

3ICE: Larry Murphy Built A Winner on Chemistry & Accountability

Larry Murphy watched from the bench as 3ICE’s leading scorer, Hank Crone, lined up at center-ice. The Patrick Cup Championship game came down to a winner-take-all shootout. A goal from Crone would clinch The Patty for Team Murphy. Crone skated towards the goal, outwaited Team Patrick’s netminder and scored the golden goal. Just like that, Larry Murphy became a Patrick Cup Champion. Murphy, a former player turned 3ICE coach, is an interesting story. Hall-of-Fame players fill the benches behind each team in 3ICE, coaching a game designed for pure offense. Murphy, a gifted offensive defenseman, understands all sides of the…

Joe Mullen Talks About His Second Season as Coach in 3ICE

Joe Mullen returned to 3ICE for his second season. Despite barely missing Championship Weekend and an opportunity to play for the Patrick Cup, finishing with a 3-3 record, there are many positives to take away from this season. Hockey is a game of inches, and Team Mullen showed just how close 3ICE can be. Their slow start crushed their playoff chances, but their losses were not for lack of effort. “I think we played pretty good at the beginning of the season,” Mullen said. “Not as good as we could have, but it wasn’t bad; we were just not scoring….

Swaggy P: 3ICE’s Peter Lenes Oozes Flair, Finesse, & Swagger

Peter Lenes would steal time in practice to work on, at the time, unconventional stick-handling techniques during his college days. Inspired by Mike Legg, whose famous goal in 1996 is now dubbed the “Michigan,” Lenes looked to expand his hockey toolbox. He continuously took his creative appetite into practice. His ambition to master the legendary lacrosse move didn’t go unnoticed. His coaches at the University of Vermont would catch glimpses of him trying to hone his niche craft. Rather than ribbing the young forward, they asked fair questions. Would the timing ever be suitable for a move like this? Is…

However, much like the final game itself, the majority of the glory was awarded to Team Murphy. Team Murphy Dominated 3ICE’s Award Ceremony While there were plenty of trophies to be won at the 3ICE Awards, there was only one trophy every skater and coach…
