In the Nashville Predators‘ 6-3 win over the Boston Bruins, veteran center Steven Stamkos reached a career milestone. Though renowned as a goal-scorer, he notched the 600th assist of his career, joining 104 other players (12 of whom are active) to hit that mark.

Stamkos, who is newly 35 years old, is quite the accomplished player. In the five seasons after he was drafted, he won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy twice. He has remained one of the best in the business throughout the years, captaining the Tampa Bay Lightning to consecutive championships in 2020 and 2021.
Due to his consistency, Stamkos has the chance to rise up high among the NHL’s all-time scoring leaders. In his 1,143-game career, almost exclusively with the Lightning, he has 573 goals and 600 assists for 1,173 points. Since he debuted in 2008-09, only Alex Ovechkin has more goals. Stamkos is 15th in total assists in that span, which isn’t too shabby for one of the defining goal-getters of his era.

This season has been a letdown in Nashville. The Predators sit well outside a playoff spot in an up-for-grabs Western Conference, with an underwhelming 22-32-7 record (third-worst in the NHL). Whether they choose to run it back or rebuild in the offseason, Stamkos is in it for the long haul—he’s under contract through 2027-28. Unless the Predators want to trade the legend, Stamkos will pile up his future milestones in Music City.
