Rankings

Standing under 6 feet tall, Braidy Wassilyn is a speedy forward who has a great ability to create space for himself and his teammates. He is very elusive and can use his small stature to avoid body checks and find scoring areas. His junior career has not been anything special yet, but there are many great attributes to this player when you watch him play.

In his first full Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season, he played with the Niagara IceDogs in 2024-25 and was able to record 39 points in 62 games and notably only scored eight goals. Not a great stat line for a player that many had high hopes for as the 4th overall pick in the 2024 OHL Draft. During his draft season, he found a bit of a new life after a trade to the London Knights. He saw a major improvement in his goal scoring in London, with 17 goals in 56 games and was able to record 41 points with his new team. Overall, this season, he recorded 46 points in 62 games.

Wassilyn is another player who always seems to be in the right position when in the offensive zone. Whether he has the puck or doesn’t, he has great spatial awareness. Another thing I have liked about him is his shot. He has a very quick release that often fools goaltenders, and since he is known more as a playmaker, that release can be a weapon, since goalies will be expecting a pass from him.

Where teams may be hesitant to draft him is the fact that he is a smaller forward and hasn’t had the production that many thought he would have coming out of junior hockey. To me, I see a player that is growing and one that could mould into a pretty useful NHL player after he has finished his development in the NCAA at Boston University, where he will play next season.

Braidy Wassilyn – NHL Draft Projection

There is still a great player in Wassilyn, but that elite player has not yet appeared in the OHL just yet. He has made improvements this season, but he hasn’t made enough strides to get into the top two rounds of the upcoming draft. I see him getting taken around the mid-way point of the third round and potentially dropping even further than that to the fourth or even fifth due to his height.

Quotables

“He is known for creativity, excellent passing and playmaking and a quick release, despite being an unselfish player who is just as happy teeing up his teammates as he is putting a puck in the net himself.” –Brendan Ferry, Dobber Prospects

“Wassilyn’s skill has been evident from a young age. The Puslinch, Ont., native tore up the minor hockey ranks with Markham, which included a massive 31-goal U-16 season. He had to work a bit harder to get noticed, though, with Markham not qualifying for the season-ending OHL Cup – the biggest showcase of them all.” – Steven Ellis, Daily Faceoff

NHL Potential

Wassilyn has NHL potential and could be a productive player at the top level. If he continues to develop over the next couple of seasons at the NCAA level, he can absolutely become a middle-six player who is a big distributor and playmaker. Potentially an important power-play piece as well.

Risk- Reward Analysis

Risk – 3/5, Reward – 2.5/5

Fantasy Hockey Potential

Offense – 7/10, Defense – 3/10
