At long last, the Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup champions again. Twenty years after winning their first one in 2006, the Hurricanes claim their second-ever Stanley Cup in 2026. The Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 to win the series 4-2.
20 Years Later, the Hurricanes Are Back on the Mountaintop
After eight long years at the helm, Rod Brind’Amour has now won a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes as a captain and a head coach. The Hurricanes entered the game with a 3-2 series lead after winning Games 4 and 5 to give themselves a chance for their second Stanley Cup.
Taylor Hall got the Hurricanes on the board first with his seventh of the playoffs. It gave him 11 road points in one postseason, which is a franchise record. Furthermore, the Hurricanes were 22-2 in the 2025-26 season when Hall scored a goal.
Jackson Blake had a multi-goal night after a goal and an assist, which came on the Hall goal. That gave him 20 points in the postseason, leading the Hurricanes. Only Cory Stillman (26) and Eric Staal (28) had more in one postseason in franchise history.

Nikolaj Ehler‘s eighth goal of the playoffs came on an empty-net goal, giving the Hurricanes a 3-0 lead to put the game away. He finished with eight goals and 18 points in 18 games in his first playoffs with the Hurricanes. He only trailed Hall (19) and Blake (20) in terms of team points.
Brandon Bussi claimed his first playoff shutout, coming in an elimination game to win his first Stanley Cup, 248 days after making his debut. He finished his first postseason in Raleigh with a 3-1 record, a 1.60 goals-against average, and a .931 save percentage, along with a shutout as the cherry on top. From being a waiver claim to a Stanley Cup champion, Bussi has been on one heck of a ride in his first season in the NHL.
The Hurricanes are now two-time Stanley Cup champions, 20 years apart. Brind’amour said back in December, when they were celebrating the 2006 team, that he wanted to win one bad for this group of Hurricanes. Well, six months later, they did just that. Like the 2006 team, the 2026 Hurricanes will forever live in immortality to bring Raleigh, North Carolina, its second-ever Stanley Cup championship.
